Squid Game creator, Hwang Dong-hyuk, who recently declared that third season will serve as the last of the series, confirmed that Netflix has big plans for the franchise.


Hwang Dong-hyuk, the series director, writer, and executive produce, hinted at a spin-off in future, while speaking to The Wrap.


“I know Netflix has a plan,” Hwang said, adding that the streaming giant is “not going to throw this idea away”.


“Though one thing is certainly clear,”, the creator said, assuring, “Season 3 is not going to be the end of the ‘Squid Game’ universe.”


Earlier, the showrunner during an interview with AP News, said the upcoming season three will see a time jump.


“Season 3 of Squid Game will be set in 10 to 20 years in the future. It will be darker and sadder, but at the same time, it’ll also be quite humorous,” he said.


The maker also told the outlet that season three was already in the works simultaneously with season two.


According to him, the forthcoming season is in the post-production stage and is set to release in 2025.
